World famous sculptor Gutzon Borglum, who carved presidents’ heads on Mount Rushmore, said in court he had never seen anything more beautiful than Ha Ha Tonka before Bagnell Dam overflowed its beautiful blue water with mud and slime. Three time Senator James A. Reed, in need of cash for his run against Franklin Roosevelt as Democratic nominee for President, was hired to argue the suit against Union Electric for one million dollars in damages. The trail was halted when Reed’s lover, Nelly Don, was k8idnaped and Reed rushed back to Kansas City to coerce Tom Prendergast’s northside band of gangsters to rescue her. These historic events are told with references from newspapers, books and magazines.
